Hawai'i Team Meets in Oahu

The Ocean Tipping Points Hawai'i case study team met in Hawai'i Kai on the shores of Maunalua Bay, Oahu for a 5 day working group to make progress on our database assembly, our analysis plan of attack, and honing our message about the utility of our work products for coral reef management. We got the chance to reconnect with our old teammate and colleague, Jack Kittinger, now at Conservation International, get valuable feedback from our Expert Management Advisory Group members, and make some new connections to Malama Maunalua, a local non-profit organization working to rehabilitate their bay. On Saturday night following the meeting, Jack and Kim gave short presentations at a televised public meeting organized jointly by the Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and Malama Maunalua and answered tough questions from the crowd about how to better understand and protect Hawaii's nearshore marine ecosystem.
